Join the Anti-Trump Resistance Movement

https://www.thenation.com/article/your-guide-to-the-sprawling-new-anti-trump-resistance-movement/

I have been so depressed from November to now that I wasn’t sure what to say to others so I re-posted articles from others, signed petitions & forwarded them. I tried to let Congress & the Senate know how outraged I am with Trump’s acts, as well as his choices for his cabinet.the-best-way-to-not-feel-barack-obama.jpg

BUT, I need to get my 2nd novel finished. It is titled “Crimes & Impunity in New Orleans” & it takes places during the Reagan era and deals with many similar issues as today. I realize that if I really want to make a difference, I need to get this book out. That means spending my days writing, as opposed to spending my day posting all the anti-Trump posts that are all over the net.change.png

I hope to see you all at the protests!

Peace, love & justice for all,

Sherrie                                                                                                                                                             Sherrie Miranda’s historically based, coming of age, Adventure novel “Secrets & Lies in El Salvador” is about an American girl in war-torn El Salvador: http://tinyurl.com/klxbt4y

Women, Read This Book Before You Get Married; Men, Read This Book to Help You Understand Women

I signed up for the CourageWorks course & this book was recommended reading. I read it in 3 nights! 31845516.jpg
Although I have little in common with the author in terms of details (she’s still with her 1st husband; I am on my 3rd), there were experiences she went through that are universal among women. And sad to say, but they are becoming common among men now too.
The willingness to keep examining her life and keep working on herself and her marriage was something I found remarkable. I never had kids, but Glennon had three with her husband and she did not want her kids to see her give up on their father (they loved him very much).
One big difference between Melton and other women is that her husband came TO HER. He wanted to work on the marriage. Many men don’t. And I think his love & willingness to NOT give up on her helped save their marriage just as much as HER willingness did.
In most cases, I believe that people can change with someone new, but they seldom change with the same person. Partners get into a dance; they are used to reacting a certain way, so it is very hard to save a marriage where there is betrayal and patterns that need to change.
I admire Glennon for being willing to do it. But I also admire her husband and children for being willing to make their marriage and family work.
Thank you, Glennon, for helping so many women, by telling your story.                               Peace, love & happiness to all,                                                                                                             Sherrie                                                                                                                                                          Sherrie Miranda’s historically based, coming of age, Adventure novel “Secrets & Lies in El Salvador” is about an American girl in war-torn El Salvador:

Truth

Not only do the young women not know this, they often choose to speak about trivial things (like how a woman looks or how they are dressed – e.g. WHO they are wearing), rather than speak about important issues like poverty, education, healthcare, etc.
It saddens me that we have gone so far, only to come back to a place where we are again seen as childish & child-like.
Peace, love & true equality for all,
Sherrie

How to stop wasting women’s talents: overcome our fixation with youth | Margaret Hodge | Opinion | The Guardian

Esp. now when the older worker has so much they can hand down to the younger worker, we need to realize that, even after retirement, there is a place for the older worker. If we don’t, it is the next generations to come, that will pay the price. They will live a a society that does not understand itself.

Thoughts for today, #207 …. “JOHN LENNON: My Role in Society …. “!!

We have an obligation as artists to actively show people another way of looking at the world. There will always be pessimists who believe making war is the only way to have peace (Look how well that’s worked for us!).
We may have our down days, but deep inside, we will ALWAYS believe in humankind’s ability to make this world a better place. 😉 ❤
Peace, love & justice for all,

MY ROLE IN SOCIETY

“My role in society, or any artist’s or poet’s role, is to try and express what we all feel.

Not to tell people how to feel.

Not as a preacher, not as a leader, but as a reflection of us all.”

John Lennon

Does Loneliness Come From Outside of Us? I, personally, don’t think so.

https://aeon.co/essays/how-loneliness-generates-empathy-and-shapes-identity

My response to the above article on “Loneliness”:

Sherrie Miranda comments:
The loneliest times of my life, I have been around people almost 24/7. Loneliness and being alone are two completely different ideas. Loneliness stems from not having quality interactions with people. For this reason, couples on the verge of divorce may feel extremely lonely, each in his/her own way.

Loneliness is also related to how well you know yourself: what you enjoy doing; what you enjoy reading, etc.

I remember when I went through my first divorce, my sister and her husband brought me a little TV because they perceived me as being lonely. I never watched that TV. Instead, I soon started a program at a local college, made some acquaintances and got a new job. Although I was still lonely because I was not connecting deeply with the people around me, I was, at least, trying to change the circumstances of my life.

Perhaps, what researchers are calling “Loneliness” is something else entirely. Perhaps, these people are searching for a life that has meaning. Sometimes, one person’s valuable opinion and acute listening is all we need. It definitely seems to be true in my case as I spend many hours a week alone, but my husband and I spend quality time together daily. I also have other quality activities that I engage in. Perhaps, we are all just looking for a quality life. Something that is much more satisfying than spending time with a bunch of people that you know little about and care even less about.

I would say this is true, not just for women, but men too. My dad is one of those men, as is my husband. I have also known several women who I admire for handling the problems life throws at them. 😉 ❤

5* Review of Ethan Canin’s “Carry Me Across the Water”

5 stars The story of a man who had a fascinating & love-filled life!
Reviewed By Sherrie Miranda
This review is for: Carry Me Across the Water: A Novel 88293.jpg
My book has a different cover from the two on Amazon. I can see why. I thought I was going to be reading a book about a Japanese person, not a book about a young Jewish boy who escapes Nazi Germany!
This is the story of one man’s brave, yet often difficult life. August Kleinman’s mother saw what was coming, so she left with her son in the middle of a dark, foggy night, leaving behind a very wealthy German Jew husband, Augusts’s father.
This book became more and more enjoyable, the more I read. Kleinman appreciated every stage of his life and lived it to the fullest. Even in old age, he had his son, daughter-in-law (who appreciated him more than his son did) and his grandson. He also had a secret friend, a young Latina woman with a child, that he tried to help. He felt it was the least he could do after hoarding millions most of his life.
And then there was the Japanese connection, created because of the war. Even though he killed the owner of the letters, Kleinman felt he needed to see the Japanese man’s son and give him the letters that would explain who he was.
As always, when one loves a story, I didn’t want it to end. I will be looking to read Canin’s other novels very soon!
