We Are What We Read

This is very true … For this reason, I tried to finish every book I ever started, no matter how difficult. “Beloved” just about broke my heart every time Morrison got to the woodshed scenes, but I felt I needed to KNOW this story from the bottom of my soul … 😉 ❤
Sherrie Miranda’s historically based, coming of age, Adventure novel “Secrets & Lies in El Salvador” is about an American girl in war-torn El Salvador:
Her husband made a video for her novel. He wrote the song too. You can go to her Home page to watch it:
Or you can see it on YouTube:

Poesy plus Polemics

we are what we read
the facts and the fictions
that spring from the
soul of a writer
attach to our genome
adsorb to our helices
polymath layers that
coat our identity
dressed to step out
into civilization

we are what we read
a literate essence
whose worth all depends
on the worth of the thoughts
taken straight off the pages
we choose to believe
pages run with the
ink and the sweat
someone else spent
enriching our ken

“Reading is an act of civilization; it’s one of the greatest acts of civilization because it takes the free raw material of the mind and builds castles of possibilities.”
